Recognize a polyhedron from a non-polyhedron. Understand the differences between polyhedra.
• Represent and describe solids.
Represent a solid in transparency (hidden edges in dotted lines). Name a solid to better describe it (number and name of faces, edges, etc.).
• Classify and name solids.
Classify solids according to the number or shape of their faces.
• Sections, footprints.
Prepare the approach to patterns by recognizing the footprints of the faces. Prepare the approach to plane geometry by recognizing the shapes of the footprints of the faces of the different solids.
• Solid patterns.
Construct solids from patterns made by the students. Mentally “unfold” a solid and recognize its pattern.
• Specific vocabulary.
